If you are holidaying on Cyprus this August make time to visit Zygi on the last day of the month.
Zygi has developed a reputation as the go to place to enjoy freshly prepared and cooked fish on Cyprus. It is commonplace to see vessels large and small anchored in or off Zygi harbour, the car parks filled with cars, while people sit down to a plate of delicious fish.
Zygi village celebrates with a Fish Festival on Saturday 31st August, from 5pm until late. The event is to be held in the area around the Zygi Marina. From Maroni, drive along the beach road, the harbour will be on your left after a drive of no more than ten minutes.
Why not sample a variety of fish dishes, or take a boat ride, there are plenty of things to see and do.
Have you ever wondered what fishermen do? Learn something of the skills. Watch demonstrations of fishermen’s activities. Net sewing, long-lining, bait, sardine processing, fish filleting, will feature. An exhibition of tools used by fishermen is also planned. At a booth staffed by Fisheries Officers you can pick up information on non-edible and poisonous fish.
The Aegean Sea Music Group will enrich the event with music and singing while dance groups will perform Cypriot and island dances.
Oh, be sure to book a table at one of the local fish tavernas – perhaps one of the ones we recommend. Enjoy!
