You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches on this side of the island. Maroni beach & beach café is only a 5 minute drive. Close by you have Zygi beach, Maia beach, Secret Paradise beach Alaminos, plus there are new novel beach venues opening up year by year. In 2017 CTO provided equipment on Alaminos beach to improve accessibility for wheelchair users. We do not yet know if this will be provided in 2018.
There are many restaurants and tavernas to choose from close to the Villa. In Maroni the delightful Old Coffee Shop is open from Wednesday to Sunday (selected hours). They serve a choice of beverages including Aphrodite Ale, an ideal choice for real beer lovers. They also offer a variety of cakes and foods.
The harbour town of Zygi is noted for its fish tavernas. A 5-10 minute drive along the coast from the villa there are many popular tavernas. The stand out is the Captain’s Table (most expensive) and the best value for money and the best calamari and octopus is Heraklis (Hercules). You can tell the owners that Andy &Niki recommended them to you!
If history and culture is your thing then you’ll be happy to know that Cyprus is full of archaeological sites to explore. To get you started have a look at the information on Kalavassos Tenta, Chirokotia Neolithic settlement is a UN world heritage site (not accessible to wheelchair users as it is on the side of a steep hill).
The Greek/ Roman township at Kourion is amazing and should not be missed.
Avoid visiting in the heat of the day as much of the site is in full sunlight. Take plenty of drinking water to maintain hydration.
Worried about entertaining the kids? Fear not, when they aren’t having fun and swimming in the pool you can take them out for day trip to wear out their energy. Some favourite spots include Camel Park at Mazotos and the Fasouri water park.
Lefkara – famed for its lace making and silver smithing is definitely worth a visit which is only a 20minute drive. Kalavassos is the place from which much copper was won. Cyprus is named for copper = cuprum. You also have the old towns in both Larnaca and Limassol (both 30 mins drive from the Villa).
Cyprus is an excellent location for bird watching and has so much to offer both local and visiting birders. The number of birds passing over during the spring and autumn migration periods are impressive, as literally millions of birds pour through Cyprus.
