Come on in the water’s lovely!

Sound’s great! How deep is the pool? I’m a not very confident swimmer? How warm is the water?

There’s a sketch, a drawing, which answers the length, width and depth questions, trouble is, it’s by the kitchen door in the villa which is not a lot of use when you are sat at home planning your holiday.

That’s why we have put together this post. To answer your most frequent questions about the swimming pool. When could you be swimming here?

There is a handrail at the shallow end of the pool. There are three steps into the pool which means that those who can walk can hold the handrail and slowly, gently, enter the water. This is ideal if you are less than confident about getting in.

At the deep end of the pool, there is a vertical ladder for the more energetic.

For those who need assistance to get into and out of the pool, we have a demountable manual hoist. The hoist can be used in conjunction with a sling to raise a person from a wheelchair, pivot them over the pool and then gently lower them into the pool.

Depth – at the shallow end the swimming pool at Villa Carpe Diem is 0.75 metres deep, that’s 30 inches in old money. There is a section of level going at that depth, ideal for those who are less confident or perhaps do not swim.

The level section gives on to a shallow slope as the depth increases to a maximum of 1.75 metres (5 feet 9 inches) where it again levels out.

At 10 metres by 5 metres, that’s almost thirty-three feet long by sixteen feet wide, there is plenty of space to enjoy!

We estimate that the pool holds 75,000 litres, in imperial units that’s sixteen thousand five hundred gallons of water.

In early spring, the sun warms the pool very pleasantly and by mid-summer, the pool has reached a balmy temperature which it retains through September and into October.

It is worth a mention, that the area around the swimming pool is decked with limestone slabs. Limestone is much cooler in summer when glazed tiles can become so hot that you cannot walk on them barefoot! Limestone is also ideal for children, it is non-slip which adds a measure of safety. I should point out that the tiles on the verandah are glazed and as a consequence become slippery when wet. We recommend that people avoid going onto the verandah ‘wet’, towel down when getting out of the pool or sun-dry first.

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. Here are a few pictures for you to contemplate as you plan your accessible summer holiday at Villa Carpe Diem.

We hope that this blog post has answered some if not all of your questions about the swimming pool. Feel free to ask any further questions that you might have.
