No-one really thinks of Cyprus as being a winter wonderland, most people come here for the sunshine and beaches, but in the Troodos mountains you can frolic in the snow and ski in the colder months. Up in the pine forests, the scenery is breathtaking, the air is cold and clear, and the ski runs await.
There are many cafes willing to supply you with apres-ski hot chocolate, coffee or a warming tot of zivania, and you can also buy hot roasted nuts coated in honey or caramel, to keep up the energy levels!
There are also several marked walks where, if skiing is not your thing, you can walk through the snow and just enjoy the quiet forest.
And if you have made a morning of snow frolicking, you can return to sea level for lunchtime, and sit in your tee-shirt and shorts and enjoy the warmth of the sun – and maybe even take a swim the still-balmy sea!
